Istanbul 2009: Masforce ontsnapt nipt aan Italiaanse spin-out

Tijdens de P1 endurance race op zondag (Istanbul 2009) speelde zich achter de koplopers een ongemeen spannende strijd om de 4de plaats af. Het team Masforce Pegase (Marc Sluszny, Micha Robijn en Patrick Huybreghts) probeerde het Italiaanse Al&Al team van zich af te schudden. Met ingehouden adem zagen de honderden toeschouwers op het VIP-eiland hoe de Belgen zich niet zomaar gewonnen gaven. In een van de laatste ronden aan de noordelijke bocht van het parcours op de Bosporus voer Masforce weer aan de binnenkant van de bocht, op de voet gevolgd door het Italiaanse team. Micha stuurde de Nor-Tech van Masforce in een prachtige lijn de boei om. Net achter hen kwamen de Italianen in een hevige spin-out terecht. Een dergelijk ongewenst manoeuvre komt door een slechte communicatie tussen de throttleman en de piloot. De achterkant van de boot wil namelijk de voorkant inhalen. Hoe dan ook, de plotse slag van 180° was enorm voor beide inzittenden zoals je hieronder op de foto's kunt zien ... (English text below)

Italian spin-out
During the P1 endurance race on Sundag (Istanbul 2009) teams Masforce and Al&Al were fighting for 4th place. Team Masforce Pegase (Marc Sluszny, Micha Robijn and Patrick Huybreghts) tried to shake loose team Al&Al. Hundreds of spectators on the VIP island watched the struggle close by. The Belgians were not to give in that easily. In one of the last laps on the northern marker on the Bosporus team Masforce was taking the inside turn with team Al&AlI breathing in their necks. Micha took the Nor-Tech of team Masforce into a beautiful and very controlled turn around the marker. Just meters behind them the Italians wanted to dive even closer on the inside but made an impressive spin-out turning their powerboat 180° in just seconds. Such a situation can occur when throttleman and pilot do not communicate clearly. This sudden turn had an impressive impact on the Italian crew as the pictures show. Luckily no one was injured and team Al&Al could continue their race.
